Dundee Service Jam
As part of the 2018 Global Service Jam
Global Service Jam’s are hosted in a network of ninety cities across the world. Each city hosts a ‘jam’ over a 48 hour period derived from a secret theme and a social issue. Our team had four weeks to plan, organize and design the Dundee Service Jam. The jam events are open to everyone and can be any size, bringing different creative minds together in an intense and energetic environment.

Our team designed a virtual meal booking system allowing users to surprise a loved one with a “Virtual Meal”. Themes we explored were feelings and emotions, from that we arrived at our concept through user research and prototyping. From user research, we gathered that students living away from home as well as their families find that the contact is what they miss most. “Virtual Meal” aims to create contact as realistic as possible through sensory elements such as smell, and atmosphere without the person actually being there. The user would book through an app or site at their nearest virtual cafe and the other participant living across the globe would get a notification of the date, time and place. This concept turns a usually boring and mundane interaction into a meaningful occasion for friends and loved ones.
